Chapter 1: Introduction

The Emulex® HBA Manager application is a comprehensive management utility for Emulex adapters that provides a powerful, centralized adapter management suite. Adapter management includes discovery, reporting, and management of local and remote adapters from a single console anywhere in the network and across operating system platforms. Remote configuration capability is provided by TCP/IP access from the IP addresses of remote machines. The Emulex HBA Manager application contains a GUI and a CLI. Refer to the Emulex HBA Manager Command Line Interface User Guide for information about installing and using the CLI.

The Emulex HBA Manager application can be installed on the Windows and Linux operating systems. For supported versions of operating systems, platforms, and adapters, go to www.broadcom.com.

For VMware hosts, use the Emulex HBA Manager application for VMware vCenter. For more details, refer to the Emulex HBA Manager Application for VMware vCenter User Guide. You can manage adapters using the Emulex HBA Manager application on Windows, but you must install and use the appropriate Emulex CIM Provider.

NOTE:    The Emulex CIM Provider is not supported on ESXi 7.0 U3 and later operating systems. Refer to the Emulex CIM Provider Package Installation Guide release 14.0 for more information.

NOTE:    The Emulex OneCommand Manager application has been renamed as the Emulex HBA Manager application. However, the following items within the application continue to use OneCommand:

1.1 Compatibility

Version 14.0 of the Emulex HBA Manager application is supported on the following HBAs:

n    LPe36000 series

n    LPe35000 series

n    LPe32000 series

n    LPe31000 series

If a remote host is running a version 14.0 or earlier Emulex HBA Manager application and a local host is running a version 14.0 or later Emulex HBA Manager application, the Emulex HBA Manager installed on the local host can discover and manage LPe12000-series or LPe16000-series HBAs installed on the remote host.

NOTE:    In a server that includes mixed families of Emulex HBAs and that uses a version 14.0 or later driver kit, although LPe12000-series and LPe16000-series HBAs are visible in the Device Manager, the driver is not bound to these HBAs in the server. These HBAs are also not visible in the Emulex HBA Manager application.
